It's August in Middle Tennessee, and it definitely still feels like summer with these warm temperatures. But inside Chic Artique, fall has officially arrived!
Our fall décor is hitting the shelves and if you're anything like us, seeing those first warm colors makes it hard not to start thinking about the season ahead.
But how do you decorate for fall when it's still 90 degrees outside?
The good news is you don't have to cover the house in pumpkins just yet. August is actually a great time to start transitioning your home from summer to fall with a few simple changes that feel seasonal without getting too far ahead of yourself.
Start With Your Table
One of the easiest places to start bringing in a little fall is at your dining room or kitchen table.
Instead of completely changing everything, start with a new table runner, placemats or napkins in warmer colors and textures. Add a vase or pitcher filled with seasonal stems, a few candle holders, or a pretty trivet on the table or nearby countertop.
These smaller changes can completely shift the look of the room while still feeling appropriate for late summer.
And the best part is that you can keep building on them as we get closer to September, October and Thanksgiving.
Swap Out Your Florals
You don't have to wait for the leaves outside to change before swapping out your florals inside.
Florals are one of our favorite ways to transition into a new season because even one arrangement can make a big difference. Try replacing some of your brighter summer stems with richer colors and more texture.
Our store is filled with stems, hydrangeas, real-feel peonies, pom poms, allium balls and plenty of other options that can be mixed and matched to create something completely your own.
And unlike the flowers outside in this Tennessee heat, these will still look good tomorrow (and all season!).
Bring in More Texture
Fall decorating isn't only about color.
Texture can make a room start feeling warmer and cozier without making it look like you've skipped straight to October. This is where things like pillows, textured linens, woven pieces and other accessories can make a big difference.
Try swapping a couple of pillows on the couch or adding textured tea towels to the kitchen. Again - you don't have to redo the entire room, because sometimes just two or three changes are enough to make everything around them feel new again.
Don't Forget the Kitchen
The kitchen is one of the easiest rooms to update seasonally, especially if you aren't ready to fully decorate the rest of the house.
A new tea towel, pretty trivet, pitcher, vase or a few seasonal accents on the counter can bring in fall without taking over the room.
It's also a good excuse to refresh some of the everyday pieces you actually use. Because seasonal decorating doesn't always have to mean adding more stuff...sometimes it's as simple as making the useful things a little prettier.
Add a Fall Scent
Even if it doesn't feel like fall outside yet, your house can certainly still smell like it.
Candles are one of the simplest ways to start changing the mood of a room. Add one to the kitchen, living room or entryway, pair it with a pretty candle holder, and suddenly you're one step closer to cozy season.
Turn up the air conditioning, light the candle and pretend it's 65 degrees. We won't tell!
Give the Front Door a Little Fall
Like everything else we've discussed, you don't have to completely redo the porch in August, either.
A seasonal door hanger is an easy place to start and gives your home a welcoming touch of fall before you bring out all of the pumpkins, mums and everything else that comes later.
You Don't Have to Decorate All at Once
The moral to this blog's story is that decorating for fall in August does not mean your home has to look like October just yet. It's simply about adding a few touches that make you excited for the season ahead.
